Following the success of the recent Community Planning Study Tour to Scotland, Concordia hosted two follow up seminars on the issue.

| The Value of Partnerships Conference |
| (27-Sep-2004) |
| Venue: Ramada Hotel, Belfast |
| Description: Concordia highlight the ‘Value of Partnerships’
Concordia, the social partner group for Northern Ireland are set to urge government to provide more direction and assistance to develop Northern Ireland partnerships after a major conference in the Ramada Hotel, Belfast.
‘The Value of Partnerships’ conference looked at partnership development within Northern Ireland and the direction that it might take in the future. The event was well attended with representatives from various Local Strategy, Community Safety and District Policing Partnerships coming together with senior government officials to discuss the possible way forward.
The key note speakers included Mr. Edgar Jardine, Director of Economic Policy Unit within The Office of the First and Deputy First Minister as well as Mr. Bill Pauley, Head of European Branch in the Department of Finance and Personnel.
Both speakers reflected on the proliferation of partnerships particularly since the onset of the Peace programme and on the successes of many in delivering very worthwhile results within local communities. In addition, the proposals for an extension to the current Peace II programme were outlined at the event.
Mr. Dermot McCarthy of the Department of the Taoiseach gave an insight into the southern experience of social partnership working and the structures which are in place to ensure inclusion of the social partners within key government decision making.
The outcome of the conference will be used to inform Concordia’s strategy on the way forward for partnership development. |

| Seminar |
| (14-Sep-2004) |
| Venue: Mellon Country Inn, Omagh & Lisburn Civic Centre, Lagan Valley Island |
| Description:
Concordia hosted 2 short Seminars for the Local Strategy Partnerships to learn more about the Republic of Ireland’s County Development Boards and Peace II Taskforces.
About the CDBs & Task Forces:
Each CDB is presently overseeing the implementation of a 10 year county/city strategy for Economic, Social and Cultural development which is providing a template to guide the delivery of public services and other activities at local level.
There are a number of County Led taskforces located along in the border counties each of which are serving as the implementing bodies for part of the EU Peace II programme. The structure of the Task forces mirror that of the CDBs and the secretariat for both is provided by the Offices of Community and Enterprise in each of the Councils concerned.
The purpose of the event was to hear about the CDB model with a view to informing the NI position in relation to the implementation of the LSP Integrated Local Strategies. In addition, the event provided an opportunity to hear about the ROI approach to delivery of the Peace II package awarded to the Border county Taskforces. It is hoped that through the seminars best practice information would be shared and useful contacts made with organisations engaged in similar activities to the LSPs.
Speakers:
1.Mr Adge King - Director of Community and Enterprise, Monaghan County Council
2. Ms Kate O’Donnell - Project Development Officer, Monaghan County Council–led Peace II Taskforce
